R. Patrick Savage Jr. Ph.D.

Dr. Savage is a graduate of Catholic University of America. He received his license to practice Psychology in 1986 and has practiced as a Licensed Psychologist in Prince George's but most recently in Montgomery County for twenty-four years. He has lived in the Washington, D.C. area for most of his life and been a member of the Maryland Psychological Association (MPA) member since 1987. He has worked for the Mental Health Association of Montgomery County, Montgomery County Public Schools, Montgomery County Health Department, operated an Employee Assistance Program for a major corporation in the area, and served as a peer reviewer/advisor for a local insurance company in addition to maintaining a private practice. He is a fellow of the Maryland Psychological Association (MPA), a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), the National Academy of Neuropsychology (NAN), and the Association of Practicing Psychologist Montgomery-Prince Georges Counties, Inc (APP).

Dr. Savage has served as a leader in his state's professional organization (MPA) since the Fall of 2007. He has served as chairman of the Professional Practice Committee, a member of the Legislative Committee, member of the Finance Committee, Executive Committee, and Board of Directors of MPA. He has held elected positions of Treasurer and President Elect and will serve as President during the '13-'14 year.

Dr. Savage has also written a number of articles for the Maryland Psychologist as well as serving on several editorial boards of professional journals: Applied Neuropsychology, Applied Neuropsychology: Adult, and Applied Neuropsychology: Child.

His experiences have included program development and direction, assessment, supervision and training of psychological associates, consultation with psychologists, consultation in the workplace and in schools, forensic evaluation and testimony, as well as the provision of evaluations and psychotherapy/counseling.

Dr. Savage frequently presents workshops or gives talks to mental health professionals and educators as well as providing educational workshops to community groups and schools on a variety of topics. He is perhaps most well known for his talks on effective parenting based on science and what we know about the brain, stress management, AD/HD, and individuals who struggle with weak executive skill functions.

Dr. Savage provides therapy to children, adolescents, adults and families who are coping with a host of emotional and behavioral issues. Areas of special interest and experience include treatment of AD/HD, learning disabilities, traumatic brain injury, concussion, diseases affecting brain function, anxiety and mood disorders, behavioral difficulties, educational difficulties and self-injury. He also has a strong background in working with parents and families around issues related to parenting practices based in science and our current understanding of brain function that are effective for all children but critical for success with children experiencing behavioral and emotional difficulties. Dr. Savage works with families in a collaborative manner, tailoring interventions to support each child's and family's needs, lifestyle, values, circumstance and developmental stage. He utilizes a variety of evidence-based techniques and uses the latest research to guide his work.
